Montessori Mathematics

Montessori Mathematics dibahagikan kepada 6 kumpulan.

1. Numbers 1-10

  • Number Rods
  • Sandpaper Numerals
  • Number Rods & Cards
  • Spindle Boxes
  • Number Cards and Counters
  • Memory Game

2. Decimal Systems

  • Bead Presentation
  • Presentation with Cards
  • Formation of Numbers

3. Teens & Tens

Dikenalkan serentak dengan kumpulan 2; decimal systems.

4. Memorisation

  • Addition Snake Game
  • Addition Strip Board
  • Addition Charts
  • Subtraction Snake Game
  • Subtraction Strip Board
  • Subtraction Charts
  • Multiplication Bead Bar Box
  • Multiplication Board
  • Multiplication Charts
  • Unit Division Board
  • Division Charts

5. Abstraction

Bantu internalise the functions of arithmetic and gradually disregard the physical manipulations of materials.

6. Fractions

Saya sendiri pernah beli KHT Math album sebelum ni tapi tak sarankan sebab takde gambar. Susah nak ikut.

Scope of Sequence

Mula dengan Numbers 1-10, bila anak-anak dah betul-betul mahir dengan numbers ni baru kenalkan Decimal System dan Teens and Tens/Linear Counting. Kedua-dua ni boleh kenalkan serentak.

Decimal System nampak macam besar kan? Boleh ke anak nak belajar ni? Tapi dengan Montessori sebenarnya dia hanya guna nombor 1-10. Ribu, ratus, puluh tu hanya place value.

“This really emphasizes place value, the decimal system, etc. which is more important than actually knowing the names of the numbers (in other words, the function is more important than what we call it —- since in other languages they use other names, but the numbers work exactly the same).

Remember teens and tens – are just terminology. And these vary by language. SO it is ok to wait.”

“In general, you want to do the numbers 1-10 pretty thoroughly; from there introduce the golden beads in quantities, then the change game (because you only need to focus on counting to 10). At any time, the liner counting can start, but in general it is saved for after the child is doing operations with the golden beads. In this way, the child is focusing on using the skills of counting 1-10 and the concept of 0 to work with really large numbers.

LInear counting begins with the teens/tens boards and these are just teaching terminology. Doing it too soon can (in some children) create confusion of too many concepts at once. So a solid feel for the decimal system first, then linear counting overlaps with the rest of the golden bead work.” – Jessica Welsh at Montessori Homeschooling FB Group
