    Language in Childhood

    Nota:

    Masa baca buku ni, ada topik kecik Maria Montessori tulis pasal defect of language yang relevan dengan speech delay yang makin banyak sekarang ni.

    Excerpt in The Montessori Method (1912):

    “Defect of Language Due to Lack of Education

    Defects and imperfections of language are in part due to organic causes, consisting in malformations or in pathological alterations of the nervous system, but in part they are connected to functional defects acquired in the period of the formation of language and consist in an erratic pronunciation of the component sounds of the spoken word. Such errors are acquired by the child who hears words IMPERFECTLY PRONOUNCED or HEARS BAD SPEECH.

    The dialectic accent enters into this category, but there also enter vicious habits which make the natural defects of the articulate language of childhood persist in the child or which provoke in him by imitation the defects of language peculiar to the persons who surrounded him in his childhood.”

    Aktiviti Bahasa Pertama

    Untuk permulaan, aktiviti bahasa fokus pada percakapan (spoken language). Boleh mula umur 18bulan ke atas. Masa ni kalau ikut perkembangan, anak-anak kemuncak bercakap. Bak kata omputeh, explosive. Macam-macam perkataan, frasa dan ayat yang keluar dari mulut mereka secara mendadak! Saya perasan perkara ni dengan Aqeel. Sebelum 18 bulan tu, tak banyak cakap, hanya satu patah satu patah. Dia hanya banyak dengar dan perhati. Satu hari tu, tetiba banyak perkataan keluar! Maksudnya dia dah gabung 2-3 perkataan sekaligus! Perkataan yang kita tak pernah ajar pun keluar juga dalam mulut dan ikut konteks pula tu!
