    With Golden Beads

    Day 1

    20150317164850

    I wish I could buy the perfect golden beads tray, but so expensive! We already have unit and hundred from colored bead stairs, DIY 10-beads, and DIY golden thousand cubes. I see the important of having the real one, since he can’t digest it at first the thousand beads ^^;;;;

    Sorting & Classifying Organisms

    Week 2 of Science

    Day 1

I printed our own 3-part cards of all sorts of animals.
So at least, he checks his own work.

^^ (With help, sebab dia cam dah hilang minat. ^^;;;;;)

    Day 2

Introducing Animal Tracks. Download animal tracks free cards from Montessori For Everyone. Playing match animals to their tracks and cut and paste it to his Science Notebook (I printed 2 copies, satu untuk kad dan satu lagi untuk tampal.) Showed him, animals leave tracks by demonstrating animal figures walking on playdoh, and so do we. If we walk by foot, then tinggal kesan tapak kaki, if by shoes, tapak kasutlah.

Tunggu Hana bangun baru buat footprint stamp dengan tempera paint. Showing him pictures of other animal tracks online, and play an online game. Best game ni sebab beserta dengan suara setiap binatang. Haris tutup telinga takut dengar.

Since the only living things around us, is us, it was pretty easy, lol. Told him that we need to eat, drink dan beranak pinak which makes us alive.

    20150310102510

    20150310121132
Lepas tu, present him cards dan minta dia sort, living and non-living. While Hana had an emergency, lol, tinggal je Haris sort sorang-sorang. He finshed, and ada satu kad tu haiwan dalam laut which he doesn’t know di non-living. It’s fine I said since he doesn’t know (Haris adalah seorang yang sangat senang merajuk. -.-)

Petang tu, we take a short walk and discuss what he sees along the way, which living and non-living. He said trees aren’t living things at first (pagi masa tampal-tampal), same goes with flower, if, they’re still on the trees. Always ask, how can you tell if something is living or non-living? To make sure he gets the point. Which he eventually does. At first he only thinks about reproduce (having babies in his thought), sebab tu dia jawab pokok tak hidup. Had to explain that they ‘move’ or ‘grow’ even though in one place.

Next day, gave him a magazine and asked him to find and cut living and non-living dan tampal dalam buku nota Sains.

Made this chart for him to analyse each of the items.

    Living and Non-Living (Lesson Plan)

    Science Week 1

    Day 1

    1. Take a walk outside. Explain there’re living and non-living things around us. Pick things up along the way.
    2. Living things need food, water and air and they reproduce. They move (trees and alike move when growing)
    3. Jotted in science journal the findings.

How can you tell if something is living or non-living?
What are some things that all living things have in common?

and write them out and discuss one by one. Take an example that most likely have them all.

Notes: Tricky one, tree, seeds, eggs, apple.

    Day 2

    Sorting with cards and figurines.
Have them cutout pictures, color and paste.

    Day 3

    Make a chart.

    – Does it move all by itself?
    – Does it grown and change?
    – Does it breathe?
    – Does it need food, water and air to survive?
    – Does it reproduce?

The start of a new schedule…

    Dah banyak bulan kelam kabut, sebab mak mereka sekalian ini tengah mengandung. Jadi mula dari first trimester memang tak larat nak buat semua. Jadi, bila Haris dah biasa, hari-hari ikut suka dia je, struggle juga a few weeks ni nak minta dia datang duduk dan do/learn something. ^^;

So, I had to come up with schedule. Mula bulan lepas, hantar Haris belajar agama dari pukul 9.00 pagi hingga 12.00 tengahari. Jadi, takpelah, mula-mula ni masa untuk sit down dan belajar kita buat sikit dulu. Mak dia pun terkontang kanting lagi masih testing what works best for him. Tambah pula, Hana tengah banyak rebellious sekarang *mak nanges*.

So, officially, the new schedule starts today. I’m going to try to fit in 4 different subjects, with 15 minutes each. If any topic of the day yang dia enjoy it’s fine to expand it a bit. It just a guide and plan and Allah knows best.

    DAILY SCHEDULE FOR HARIS

    The 4 subjects are:

    • Math
    • Bahasa
    • English
    • Science/Geo (alternate)

While Hafazan dan Islamic Studies, setiap kali selepas solat, inshaAllah.

Untuk Hana pula, will start with practical life, slow-slow. ^^

    Surah al-Fil

Hafazan Haris belum lagi sampai pada Surah al-Fil, tapi masa balik kampung the other day, one night Haris minta bacakan cerita sebelum tidur. I was thinking of short stories from Quran, and remembered al-Feel and did a quick search on internet and jumpa website ni; Teaching kids the Holy Quran. He immediately became SO interested, sebab LEGO. I guess to teach meanings of each surah next time, had to include these, and I’m very thankful for the effort put in this project.

And so, he can’t wait to come home and build Kaa’bah with his Legos. Bila dah sampai rumah, the first thing he did the next morning? Yes, he remembered his goal. Lol. Cepat-cepat dia buat, but since (*rolls eyes), he’s such a perfectionist, marah-marah dia sebab Lego pieces dia tak sama dengan gambar. I encouraged him to just use what he has, to try and to think, he hesitated. I left him alone and eventually he came to me and finished it!

Just like Surah al-Masad, I’m trying to think to incorporate whatever lesson related to the Surah. And I think I’ll do Elephant and Bird unit study next. ^^

    Surah al-Masad

    Mom listens to this:

    Mom reads:
    NAK’s transcript on the Surah.

When talked about flame/fire, Haris tanya kenapa api padam bila ditiup? Sebab biasa kalau lilin menyala, contohnya, scented candle / birthday candle, dia akan blow untuk padamkan. And so, mom had to find experiment untuk fahamkan dia. Hehe.

First we need to know, what is fire?

And then, discuss about fire safety. Fire safety booklet at Teaching Mama.

    Ordinal Numbers

    20150217150604

Introduce Haris pada Ordinal Numbers. Had to use what interests him to gain his interest. Lol. Jadi minta dia susun superheroes-superherosnya pada ranking yang dia rasa siapa paling kuat hingga lemah.

*Bring me the third ball and bring me three balls*

    Update: 2 Mar 2015
After three days (reviewing), he still can’t grasp the difference between ordinal and cardinal. Will try again somewhere in the future.
